Thermae

Location : Rome, Italy
Independent project
Advised by George Hascup

Located next to the Baths of Caracalla, the proposed thermal bath is inspired by the history of the Roman ruins. The scars on the earth from the evaporated monumental bath complex of Caracalla is recreated onto the site. The linear striations of the project resembles horizontal cracks that form due to the absence of water. Volumes part to expand into a large plaza as cracks become deeper to form a valley embedded into the ground. The triangular

boundaries of the given site guides the expansion of program. Users of the complex first enter through the most narrow end and step down deeper into the valley. As the ground becomes more embedded, larger pools for thermal bath become available for use.
